Product R&D isn’t just part of what we do — it’s the engine behind everything we release. The Fever marks our first next-generation paddle in over a year, and we approached it with the same intensity that you’d expect from a high-stakes engineering lab.
Here’s how eight months of obsessive testing, data gathering, and iteration brought the Fever to life.
Friday Labs
The Problem
The Challenger launched to overwhelming enthusiasm last March — a raw carbon fiber workhorse that delivered elite performance at an accessible price. But we wanted more.
Could we deliver the explosive power of next-gen paddles without compromising control? Could we boost pop and spin while maintaining precision? That tension — between raw force and elite control — became our design North Star.
The Process
Over eight months, we prototyped and tested over 80 paddle configurations across materials, constructions, and surface technologies. Some prototypes were radically different; others tested 2–3% shifts in core density or face composition.
Every version faced the same gauntlet: hours of competitive play, lab-based durability stress tests, and player feedback loops focused on measurable performance data. We weren’t looking for good. We were looking for perfect.
The Final Four
From dozens of candidates, four paddles emerged. Each shared the same DNA — Gen 3 power with uncompromising control — but with subtle distinctions. We submitted all four for USAP approval.
When the last paddle we developed earned PBCoR .43 certification, confirming it met the highest standard of control under pressure, we knew we’d found it. The final spec wasn’t an accident. It was the product of iteration, refinement, and precision.
